Items to be Addressed


Camper Trailers - Travel Trailers - Recreational Vehicles (RV) - Fifth Wheels

  • RV’s/ Motor Homes are only permitted for use in agricultural and environmentally sensitive area districts, unless an active building permit is obtained from the Hamilton County Building Inspector.

  • Campers/ Motor Homes may not be used as permanent residences.

  • Special permits for temporary use are required to allow for temporary or seasonal camping in motor homes and travel trailers subject to the following conditions:

    Applicants must:

    •  Demonstrate a permanent residence in another location.
    •  Have a properly permitted well, septic tank and electrical hookup.
    •  Obtain a 911 address and
    • Obtain a county driveway permit.
    • No accessory structures will be allowed on the property with the exception of a pump house not to exceed 12 x 12 feet.
    • A maximum of three (3) motor homes or travel trailers are allowed per parcel.
    • Motor homes and travel trailers must have a current state license plate at all times.
    • Occupancy cannot exceed six (6) months continuously.
    • Special permits for occupancy will be valid for five (5) years and can be renewed upon request.

Commercial Buildings

  • No new commercial buildings, commercial additions, or commercial accessory structures can be permitted until the site plan has been approved by the Planning and Zoning Board and the Hamilton County Board of County Commissioners.

Tiny Homes, Container Homes, & Barndominiums

  • All dwellings must be at least 480 square feet in Hamilton County. All homes must comply with all applicable Florida Building Codes and are subject to the same permitting processes.

  • Applications to build container homes and barndominiums must include stamped, engineered plans for both interior and exterior.

  • In Hamilton County vacant properties are not assigned addresses. They are only assigned to permitted structures.
